meaning of agave
"Agave is derived from the Greek “agavos” meaning "illustrious." The Aztec goddess, Mayheul, represented Agave's symbol of long life and health, dancing and fertility. For the Nahuatl, the original inhabitants of western Mexico, the plant was worshipped, representing goddess Mayaheul’s earthly power of wind, rain, and crops."

The third edition of the Felix Candela Prize is presented as a reflection on architecture from the landscape of America, in the cultural context of Mexico and more specifically from the landscape of the agave from which products of universal fame have identified Mexico since remote times.
Is a Mexican architecture possible to the marrow, a spermatic marrow that fertilizes it with no more commitment than the necessary pact between the environment and its inhabitants, that is: life life, a dignified life with a reason for being in Mexico? Mexico constitutes a universal mestizo culture from the particular fact of being heir to two important traditions and that has an inexhaustible, real and wonderful imaginary, in its landscape.
...
Can we think the architecture from the landscape? It is obligatory to imagine, to break the images to create new ones, that arise from the fertile dream of our mother Mexican and American land, "return" to the countryside and make an Architecture in balance with the landscape."
DRAFT
The contest proposes to devise a “Casa del Agave”, somewhere in the landscape within the Mexican territory and linked to the specific exploitation system of some or several of the products that are extracted or elaborated from it (pulque, ixtle, tequila, mezcal, among others). The participants will have to delimit the place on which they will find this “Casa del Agave” that allows the visitor to understand the landscape that surrounds it and the processes of cultivation and collection of the plant in their physical and human environment, today and in their historical becoming; as well as, to participate in the productive cultures from this plant in its broader cultural context: the place of the agave as a cultural landscape.
The contestants have total freedom to propose the architecture that will characterize said “Casa del Agave”. The specific program will be defined by each contestant based on their approach, duly argued, so that they can formulate a type to solve the project. Notwithstanding the foregoing, it is suggested to take into account to devise the type of architecture that will define the program's functional relationship with its own landscape, with the processes of cultivation, collection and specific production of derivatives from the plant, in addition to its concrete relationship with culture and leisure.
