Embrace humility in material and form, the little house in Apan.
Apan's house is made of humble yet durable materials and clearly defines a private and domestic setting. Rooms are adapted to human proportions and are large enough to accommodate a variety of uses. The central outdoor patio acts as a source of light and natural air and offers a safe and private space that can be used for work, for community gatherings or for sleeping. The rooftop above the living space provides an additional floor area for work or rest, and like many of the houses in Mexico, it may be built in the future as an additional room. Apan's house shares a similar aspiration to do more with less. It is based less on the form as an end than on the form as an enabler of the palpable qualities produced by the architectural space.
How do you improve the quality
of architecture and induce a new sensibility toward material, construction, and landscape
techniques?
